Van the man.....

Halloween started great. We were excited to go trick or treating.... until disaster happened. Van got hit by a car. We are so thankful his injuries are not life threatening. He has a fractured pelvis, cracked heel, bruised lung and his ligaments in his 1st two vertabraes torn. He had surgery on his neck.... they took bone from his hip and placed it in his neck, holding it together with a metal plate and 4 screws. He has to wear a neck brace for another month. And recovery will be about 4 months. He is such a brave boy. Truly a miracle he is alive and nothing else was wrong. We know he was watched over by his guardian angels. He is still the smiliest kid you will ever meet!!!
The pictures below are probably out of order, but they are of him in the plane going down to Children's hospital in Utah, some in the hospital and 1 I took today... he sure is happy to be home!!

Poor Tyson

3 weeks ago, Tyson had an accident at work. He fell off a roof. NOT FUN! His ankle joint dislocated, which made his foot turn in a position it shouldn't have. He tore all the ligaments in his foot, and his nerves were all damaged. And part of his bone chipped off. It was pretty nasty... (i have pictures of his foot but i won't post it for you who are "weak of the stomach.) He broke his wrist in 2 spots. Tore his lip totally open and cut above his eye. Poor guy looked like he got ran over by a train. We have a lot recovery ahead of us. He isn't able to put ANY pressure on his foot for at least 6 weeks. and his wrist for 3 months. And he has to go in for surgery again in a couple weeks. (if anyone DOES want to see pics of his foot...let me know!! i think they are pretty cool...)

Since he broke his wrist, he isn't able to use crutches, so he has a walker and a wheelchair.

I just had to add this of Van. I thought it was adorable of him!!!

Tyson's dad and brother came over and built a ramp so Tyson can come in and out of the house. It has made life for him MUCH easier....

Needless to say..... he has got in a lot of resting and T.V. watching in. His favorite spot in on the couch like this.... Looks comfy huh??? He has to keep his leg elevated about 90% of the day so he doesn't get around much. So if you come over...head on downstairs and join him in watching Netflix!!

Miss Mya turned 5 years old last week. She had quite the birthday......

We got her ears pierced.... (she was so excited....she was smiling for days!!!)

For her birthday party, we took her and 5 of her friends to a beauty college and they got their hair done and got manicures! The girls were in heaven...here are 3 of the girls getting their nails dried....

This year for Christmas my house was FULL!!!! All my siblings (except brett) and their families came to my house!!! They all surprised me and came for Christmas. I had 16 kids and 10 adults in my house for a week. Needless to say....it was CRAZY but so much fun.

The kids loved Santa....even Van! Nash was trying NOT to smile...so he ended up smiling wierd.... Mya was trying to smile PRETTY....(ended up kinda goofy) and Van, was just happy to be there!!!

First snowfall

It snowed this week, so I bundled Van up to go play outside. This was Vans first time playing in the snow, and he HATED it. He couldn't walk in his boots and the coat made his arms go out. He hated his mittens because he couldn't pick anything up or use his hands. It was sooo funny!! He gave me this pathetic look.......

He was trying to walk, and he couldn't in his boots so he fell over. He tried to get up but couldn't. He just layed their whining... it was so sad, but really funny.

Mya loved playing in the snow. She was outside for 2 hours...

We had a great Halloween! The weather was cold, but we lucked out on the rain and we had NO SNOW this year!!! Mya was a princess (of course), Nash was a Chargers football player, and Van was a frog!!!

Every year our neighborhood puts on a "Neighborhood trunk-or-treat". The HOA provides hot chocolate and donuts, and there is a pumpkin carving contest. It was a blast. We decorated our trunk and the kids got way too much candy.

After the trunk-or-treat we went trick-or-treating. Mya could have gone all night. She loved it and wanted to keep going forever. We left Van at grandmas so we could stay out a little later.

Triathlon

Its that time of year again.....the youth triathlon!!! Nash so excited to once again compete. He did soooo good!!!! They don't time the kids, but they are separated into groups so we were able to tell how he placed. He got 1st in swimming, 1st in bike, and we actually aren't sure about running. So many kids were coming in at once and we didn't know what group they belonged to. But he did so good, and we are SOOOO PROUD of him!! Good job buddy....love you!

Holland

2 weeks ago I got the chance to go to Holland with my parents. My dad is from Holland so he was the perfect tour-guide. It was amazing! I couldn't believe how pretty and perfect all the landscapes and country sides were. Here are just a couple pictures (i took a millions) of the beautiful country.

This is in one of my favorite cities we visited...Volendom (sp?). It was right on the coast, and very old. I love history, so it was very exciting for me to see everything first hand and pictures how things were during the war.

The houses are really small here. People really actually live in either a townhouse, or an apartment. Very few people live in houses... and if they do, the house is really small.

There are beautiful windmills everywhere. This one is in Kinderdyke. Tons of windmills beside canals. I was able to take a tour of the inside of one. Its amazing that people still live in these...it would be really hard.

My favorite thing to eat here was Poffertjes. YUMMY!!! My mouth is watering as we speak. They are kinda like little pancakes, but better. And they serve it with butter, whip cream, and powder sugar. AHHHHH... heaven! I had these everyday...sometimes twice a day.

We went to Amsterdam. Quite the interesting city. Marijuana is LEGAL there, so it was really strange to see drug shops everywhere, and seeing people carrying their little baggies of weed. This is me and my mom in front of a big monument, that was apparently really popular during the 60's and 70's.

Almost all the cities here have canals running through every street. Makes it hard to drive around, but sure is pretty. Everyone rides bikes. Hardly anyone owns a car in Holland. So notice all the bikes....

Summer Fun

This summer has gone by soooo fast. I can't believe school is starting soon and fall is on its way...ugh. So here is a recap of our fun summer....

We took the kids to a water park in Pocatello.

We went to the rexurg fair. I love this pic of mya and her friend sadie. They were laughing so hard. It was hilarious.

Nash was BEGGING me to let him so on this hammer ride. Its the one that goes upside down, forward and backward....like FOREVER!!!! I told him there was no way i was going to go it with him, but he insisted. He was surprised that he "floated" when he went upside down. I was nervous he would hate it, but he did awesome! I was proud of him.

Of course....they had to get their faces painted. Nash was a white tiger, and Mya got a pink fish

We made a trip to the zoo. As you can see below....Nash DID NOT want to sit on this. He thinks he too old. hahaha lol

Van turns 1

One year ago today, my sweet, adorable, perfect little boy was born!! He has been such a good little baby. He sleeps from 9pm-9am (seriously!!), he smiles constantly, he HARDLY ever cries, he crawled like the cutest little gorilla...he crawled on his knuckles, and is the cutest walker, and he adores his big brother and sister.

I am so sad that he is growing up. I wish he could stay this age forever. I love him so much..how could i not? So here are a bunch of pics taken by my sister last month for her Knuckleheads clothing catalog.... enjoy!

this weekend brett and sarah came to our house so we took them on a 4-wheeling ride in green canyon. It was beautiful and so much fun.

For my birthday, tyson took me to a St. Patricks Ball, with some of our friends. It was soooo much fun!! They had a photographer taking pics (you know....like prom!!!) so we had to get our taken!! I had to scan this pic so it looks a bit dark, but i think it turned out pretty darn cute!!!

Here are just a couple recent pics of Van. He is getting so big and so much fun. He honestly NEVER cries or fusses. He just plays all day and is an amazing sleeper. He loves food and loves to eat whatever we are eating. He is walking along furniture now and is crawling so fast. I'm hoping he is walking before summer, so i don't have to worry about him scraping his knees. He is seriously the happiest, smiliest kid you will ever meet!! I wish he would stay this age forever....

Who's the mom????

This is Mya. She thinks she is Van's mom. Really.....she does. She tells me all the time- "I"m the mom...and your the grandma." She tells other people that he is HER BABY! I thought that the novelty of having a new baby in the house would wear off...but it hasn't. Mya loves Van, and devotes every second of the day to him. As you can see in the following pictures...she is with him ALL DAY LONG and bring him with her where ever she goes!

When Van was younger and couldn't hold his bottle yet, Mya was the "feeder." Which was great for me cause I got a lot done around the house thanks to her!

She carries him around the house like this all day long.

She even puts him in her doll stroller and pushes him around

She loves to dress him and change his outfit all day long

Van loves his big sister and all the attention he get from her. You'd think he would get sick of it but nope. He is such a mellow kid, he goes along with whatever she wants him to do.

Van stats and Mya's b-day

Van will be 7 months old in 2 days!!!! I can't believe how fast he is growing up. He is the happiest baby ever. He NEVER cries! Ask anyone.....its amazing. He sleeps through the night, smiles at everyone and loves to watch Nash and Mya. His current stats are:

weight: 15 lbs 4 ounces- 7th percentile
length: 25.25 inches- 5th percentile
head circ: 15.75 inches- 4th percentile
It is so funny because he looks chunky and round...not skinny and scrawny like his stats say he is. He is just kinda swished...miniature. I love it. He's sooo flippin cute!

Mya had her birthday party this last weekend. She wanted a princess party, so we had all the girls dress up as their favorite princess and made a princess castle cake! She had a blast.

Nanny and poppy bought her his radio thing with a microphone. I can hook up my ipod to it and she can sing along to it. She walks around the house like this all dressed up and sings her little heart out. Her favorite songs are- poker face, you belong to me, and mamma mia. she knows all the words to these songs.

What a week....

Last weekend Tyson's uncle was killed in an avalanche. Scott was snowmobiling with his son Nick, when the snow crumbled below him and buried him 2 feet under. Tyson, his dad, and brothers were a few miles away from where Scott was. I tried to call Tyson to get him to go help in the search...but i thought..."he's snowmobiling...he's never gonna answer." Well about minute after I called him he felt he should call me. He did, I told him Scott was in an avalanche and they can't find him. Ty, and his dad and bros took off as fast as they could and located Nick within 10 minutes.
Nick was by himself with no shovel or anything trying to find his dad...it was an impossible task. Can you imagine trying to do that all by yourself??? Poor Nick. Tyson and his dad had shovels and a probe. Bron eventually located Scott with the probe and they dug him out. He was in the snow for over an hour. They pulled him out, and immediatly did CPR. Tyson and his dad took turns with CPR until the search and rescue came and told them to stop...that it was over. The paramedics took Scott away in the helicpoter.
Nick, Tyson, his dad and all the brothers just sat there....shocked over what happened and just devestated. Tyson was sooooo close to his uncle Scott. He was more like a brother to him.

It's been quite a week getting ready for the funeral. I am so grateful to have known Scott. We will miss him so much.

Van's new bedding

I have ben looking for bedding for Van since way before he was born. I finally found one i love. It's from Baby Star. Except they didn't sell bedding in this particular pattern, only sheets. So i bought a couple of sheets and with the help of my very talented friend Melinda, we made this bumper pad!!! I love it and this it turned out great.

Now, I just need to get a brown skirt on it, and decorate his room!!!!

Over New Years we got quite a bit of snow, and we've been taking advantage of it! We took the kids to Kelly canyon to teach them how to snowboard. It was so much fun and the kids LOVED it. As it turns out....Mya is AMAZING!!!! After only 1 lesson from tyson, she can go down the whole hill by-herself! She doesn't fall or anything...and she can switch sides as she goes down...like she'll start off with her right foot forward, then turns and switches to her left foot. Its so cute cause she giggles the whole way down!!

Nash had a blast and loved it. He was smiling the whole time!

We made a snow fort in the front yard for the kids to play in!!

Tyson brought the 4-wheeler home and pulled the kids around on their sleds!!

This year Santa was good to us!! We had a great holiday. Andy was here and my mom and dad flew in. Nash got his coveted DS, bakugons, race car track...and other small stuff. Mya got her Dora backpack she's been asking for, a princess pop up tent, a baby cradle and changing table, and lots of art stuff!! We loved having nanny and poppy here, we were sad to see them leave.

Since Nash got a DS, he gave Mya his leapster. She loves it!!

Mya helped me and nanny make cinnamon rolls!! yummy.

Tyson made this AWESOME bunk bed for Nash. The top is a twin, and the bottom is a full size. It also has a slide coming down from the top bunk!!! He did an amazing job!

Thanksgiving

After the big dinner we went sledding. The kids had a blast. Van wasn't so sure about his mittens though, but he looked SOOOOO cute in them!!!

There was a jump at the bottom of the hill and the kids would catch air. Mya giggles the whole way down, and Nash has the biggest grin ever.

Yesterday Nash was being really naughty and just complaining alot, so when Tyson had to go to walmart he wouldn't let Nash go with him. He yelled at Tyson so Ty sent Nash to his room...when tyson came home from walmart, he found this note taped to the door....

sometimes my dad is mean. i do not like my dad when he is mean. now i am sitting in my room crying, then i went outside.

Now...i thought this was just adorable. And made me feel bad.

Van- 4 months old

I can't believe Van is 4 months old now!! Time really does fly by. He is the happiest, easiest baby ever. He is constantly smiling, and is starting to babble all the time. He is a mini-Tyson...they look identical. I don't know how much he weighs yet, but he is definitly getting chunky (its about time). I love you my little bubba!

Friday we woke up to THIS!! It was horrible......

But Mya LOVED it..... and it all melted away Saturday morning (thank goodness)

Mya and Nash had a great time playing in the leaves the other night....

VAN THE MAN!!!.... look at those blue eyes. i love it and can't get enough of him.

we found Mya in her room at 11:00 at night with this done to her!!! She was painting her toes and finger nails with a permanant marker, and was coloring up her arms!!! ARGH..... (she actually did a great job on her nails tho....but shhhhh...we didn't tell her that)

Georgia & Orlando trip

This last week I was able to go to Atlanta to spend the week with my family then drive down to Orlando to see my little brother Brett get married. It was wonderful. The wedding was BEAUTIFUL, the bride was STUNNING, and the weather was PERFECT!!!

I had bought a new dress for the wedding and I didn't put it on until the morning of. Well to my surprise...the SECURITY TAG WAS STILL ON!!! I was so upset. What could i do?? I didn't have time to go find a store to take it off so I had wear it THE WHOLE DAY!!!!! To the temple, the ring ceremony and the reception. I felt so dumb......

Van loved to sit on poppy. We would be so comfortable and fall asleep like this. SO CUTE!!!

Nash's triatholon

Nash competed in his first triatholon today. He did so good. We were really nervous for him cause he's so competitive and we were worried that he would be mad if someone passed him, or if he got tired he would want to stop. But he didn't complain once, and did awesome. They set it up really good....there were 180 kids competing and they staggered the races so you wouldn't know if someone passing you was from your group or another group. The race was not timed, so that helped.

Here's Nash ( i know...it doesn't really look like him) and his good friend Cam before the race started. Swimming was first, and they swam 50 yards.

Nash is the one in the front!!! He's always been a good swimmer so this was his best event. He came in 1st of his group!

Here he is in the biking part. They had to bike .8 miles.

After biking was the last leg of the race....running!!!! He had to run 1/2 a mile. He was smiling the whole time!!!

We blessed Van on the 16th. Tyson did such a wonderful job. My dad told me afterwards that Van had woken up at the beginning of it and was smiling throughout the blessing.

I know this picture is really small...but it is really cute of the kids. Maybe if you click on it, it will enlarge???...

We also had our Leishman family reunion at the beginning of the month. We stayed at an awesome cabin in Island Park. Nash's favorite thing was to ride this dirt bike. It was just his size. I wasn't sure if he'd be able to balance it right, but he got on and just took off! Tyson was sure proud of him!!!

Okay...so i know I haven't posted any pics lately. But here's an update on our little family...

We moved into a new house! I love it.

Van turned 1 month..and his current stats: 7 lbs 12 ounces and 21 inches long.

Nash starts 1st grade next week.

Mya is starting preschool next week also!!!!

Mya's favorite thing is to hold Van. She will hold him for hours....seriously. So, I have recruited her as my little babysitter. If I need to cook, or put something away...I just get Mya and she hold him for me. She never complains or gets bored. Its great! And Van is such a good baby, that he doesn't ever mind it either...even when she tries to "play" with him.

we've been boating a lot lately and the kids have loved every minute of the lake. Tysons parents have this thing they made loke 20 years ago to teach their kids how to water ski, and so we pulled it out for our kids. Nash was able to get up on it by himself, but Mya needed help from Ty. So they just sand on this board and hold on to the ropes and get pulled by the boat!!!

Ross Park-Pocatello

Yesterday we went to Ross Park in Pocatello. It was our last day with only 2 kids so I wanted to do something really fun that you can't do with a baby. This place is so muc fun...and CHEAP!!! The kids had a blast and I loved getting 1 last tanning session in!

there is this really cool big slide that Nash loves to go on....and on...and on..... He can't get enough of it.

Then they have a lazy river going around the park, and this fun leap-frog lili-pad thing. Nash pretends he's on WIPEOUT and loves this.

Mya likes this too, but definitly needs help from daddy!!! And she just crawls across them, and thinks she's such a big kid.

This 4th of July was a lot of fun. The weather was perfect, the food was great, and the fireworks show was AMAZING!!! Tyson also ran in another marathon before the parade started...the Liberty 5K. GREAT JOB TY!

Tyson's marathon

This last weekend Tyson ran in the Idaho Falls Scenic 10K marathon. The kids and I were there to support him. He's been training for marathons for a while now, and he just loves it. 2 weekends ago he ran in the Teton Dam Marathon, which was 14 miles (i missed this one since I was stuck in an airport, so i don't have any pictures). The kids loved seeing him run and waiting for him at the finish line....burr was it cold though...

After the marathon, we headed to the Rexburg Airshow. It was a lot of fun. This is just one of the planes there. The planes were doing CRAZY stunts in the air.

Trip to Georiga

I've had quite a whirl-wind of 2 weeks. I was determined to make "1 last trip" before the baby arrived, so my parents got me and the kids buddy passes to fly to georgia for a week. (NOTE: DO NOT FLY ON BUDDY PASSES IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN!!) Anyway.... we got to atlanta great and had so much fun. We swam almost every day, visited friends and cousins, went boating (which again.....do not do if you are 35 weeks pregnant!! ouch.....), and had a lot of fun with nanny and poppy. The kids were not ready to come back...and apparently, the airplanes didn't want us either.
We tried to leave thursday..couldn't get on a flight. Tried again on Friday, arriving at the airport at 8 :30 a.m. Tried again......and all the flights were full ,so went back to the house. Saturday...we go back. Brett was able to come with us (since he works for delta and can go through security), and thank goodness he did. We were there all day again trying to get on a flight. By 5:00, we were exausted and the kids had had enough. The flights to SlC didn't look good, so we finally just went to Portland hoping to get to SLC easier from there. NOPE! We spent 2 days there, and finally just had to buy tickets to come home. WHEW!!!! Very tireing. At different points of the days, Mya had thrown HUGE tandrums, i've burst into tears in front of everyone, and dealing with Nash only wanting to go into the boys restroom and not with me and Mya.

Overall, it was GREAT trip...but I am so thankful to be home.

While in Portland, we stayed with Melissa. Nash and Mya loved seeing their cousins again. Here they are at the park, playing ring-around-the-rosie.

Stone Mountain

While in georiga, we met up with my sister-in-law Shanna and her kids at Stone Mountain. I haven't been for a few years, and had forgotten how much i love it. What it is, is a big mountain that is a rock, and carved on the side is 3 officers from the confederate war. And every night in the summer, a lazer show is put on. It's not just lights, but music with lazer pictures to go along with the songs. The songs are all American pride, or southern pride songs. Then there is always fireworks at the end. It was so muc h fun. The kids loved it.

Opening fishing day

Every Memorial weekend is the opening fishing at Henry's Lake, and its tyson's family tradition to go every year. It's a BIG deal for them. They spend all weekend there, camping and fishing. Since Nash is old enough now, he was able to go and help fish. And he caught one...actually 3 but only kept one. He was soooo proud of himself!!!

Yellowstone Park

On Memorial Weekend we headed up to Yellowstone National Park. I didn't take many pictures, (my camera batteries died by the time we got to old Faithful.) but I did get one of a moose....looks pretty skinny without it's winter coat...

A bison....shedding its winter coat. The animals are right out your car window so the kids thought it was pretty cool. We also saw lots of elk, and even a grizzly bear with it's cub!!!

Civil Defense Cave

We took the kids to the Civil Defense Caves. WHY...i went.....i don't know. Maybe when I want to go into labor.....then I'll go again. It was fun, but HARD. we had to climb over this big boulders to get into the cave ( and it's way hard to bend over and steady yourself when you have a basketball for a tummy). Then once we got into the cave, it was pitch dark...we used flashlights... and it was soo slick from ice. It was really hard for me to do, and probably shouldn't have done it. But the kids had a blast!!

This is the kids and tyson at the sand dunes after the cave. I wasn't about to temp to climb up the sand hills. It's hard enough when your not preggo. But the kids love to run and jump off the edge and slide down the hills.

Here are just a few pictures of the kids playing outside in the water. The kids favorite thing to do is go on slip-n-slides, and run through sprinklers. This is what we do every time the weather gets above 70 degrees (which has been about 5 days now!!!)

Tyson and I took the kids to the zoo last weekend. It's been warm enough we can actually go outside and do things now! The kids had a blast. This first picture is of the kids "playing music" like someone would out in the "field." Mya loved the monkeys the best, and Nash said he loved the otters! For only $14 for the whole family.....I think we will be making more trips to the zoo!!

tyson and I took the kids to a gymnastics place in town, and they have a indoor climbing wall. Nash wanted to try it so bad. He did AWESOME! He started off on the "easier" side and once he got to the top he was determined to try all the harder climbs. He ended up getting to the top 7 times! He's such a determined little bugger. He loved that when you get to the top, you ring a bell that's there, so everyone in the gym could hear him.

There was one part that has a ledge, and you have to climb over the ledge and get on top of it, he tried it....got on top but was really nervous to come down from it. But with a little help....he did it. And said next time he goes he doesn't want ANY help. Thats my Nash-terd.

Nash....and 911

Oh my....so I don't know what goes on in Nash's little mind sometimes. On Wednesday this week I was downstairs playing with Mya, and we get a phone call from the 911 dispatcher saying they received a call from this house. I said no, it was a mistake....I have a 5 year old in the house who called. I hung up and called for Nash. This is how our conversation went....

Me: "NASH!!!!! Where are you? Come here."
Nash: "What?"
Me: "Did you just call 911?"
Nash: "yes"
Me: "Why???"
Nash: "Because I wanted you to go to jail."
Me: "WHAT???? Why?"
Nash: "Because you were being mean to me."

Oh my heck....I wouldn't let him watch a certain movie. So after sending him to his room for a while he comes out ......

Nash: "Mom, are the police still coming??"
Me: " No! But if they were, they are coming for YOU not me....."
Nash: "but i don't want to go to jail."

I explain to him why he can't call 911 if there is not an emergency. I try to think of something that is a good punishment...I know I can't just spank him because that will just make him even more mad....and he'll call 911 saying his mom hit him!!! So instead... the next day I take him to the Police department and the Fire Station to apologize to them. He was so worried they were going to keep him and take him to jail. It was hilarious. (and while we were leaving my father-in-law says to Nash...."okay nash....if they keep you i'll come visit you in the morning.) We go....he apologizes....they sit down with Nash and explain to him again why he can't just call 911 when he's mad. He is so embarrassed.....and hopefully he learned his lesson!

Jackson Hole swimming

This past monday we went to Jackson Hole recreation center. They have this really fun indoor water park type place. It has a big slide, little slide, a pool where the deepest it goes is 3 feet so its awesome for kids. And then it has a big olympic size pool with a diving board and a climbing wall.
Nash wanted to climb so bad but in order to climb it, you have to pass a test withe lifegaurd. You need to swim the whole length of the pool without stopping. And Nash passed so he was able to climb it. He loved it!!!

Today is Mya's birthday!! Holy cow...I can't believe she is 3. She has been so excited all day. Even though we are not really having a party...she keeps telling everyone she see's that "I am having a birthday party and nanny, poppy, oma, and mula are coming!!!" Now....Oma is my grandma who died a few weeks ago...nanny and poppy live in georgia......and mula is my sister melissa who lives in washington. Apparently..these are her favorite people! And none of them are coming to "her party!" Hopefully she won't be too disapointed.

I was trying to take pictures of her and she was totally posing and being crazy. These are the best one's I got!!

Sledding

This past weekend we went the the sand dunes to go sledding. We had a lot of fun. Nash LOVED to go down the big hills, but Mya liked to stay on the little ones. Andy, Alex, and Brett went with us also. We had a big snow storm come through, so the snow was all powdery and perfect for sledding!

Merry Christmas

This christmas was spent in georgia with my family. We have had a blast. First the kids, me and my brother andy drove from Idaho to Georgia. WHEW!!! That was the longest drive of my life. I was sick the whole 2 1/2 days, so it made it seem so much longer. We arrived and enjoyed nice weather of 70 degrees and spending time with my brother Brett who just got off his mission.

Christmas eve we spent 4-wheeling and skeet shooting. I even gave it a try. The weather was actually really cold this day so we had to stay bundled. But we had a blast!

"As most of you know I own and manufacture a children's clothing business, and as of February 10, myself and thousands of others in the children's industry will be deeply affected financially or will be out of business.

Remember the outcry last holiday season over lead in imported toys? In order to combat such safety issues, the Consumer Product Safety Commission has passed legislation called the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA). The law sets stringent guidelines for children’s products containing lead and phthalates (a chemical used in some vinyl products).
It is supposed to go into effect February 10th, 2009, and after that date any product intended for children ages 12 and under must meet these guidelines, and have a certificate of compliance from a CPSC-accredited laboratory. This includes not just toys, but clothing, jewelry, blankets, sheets, books, bibs, strollers, carriers, and anything else that a child under 12 might come in contact with. Sounds great, right?

In theory, maybe. But in actuality the law is so far reaching that it may succeed in turning the economy upside down. For starters, the CPSIA requires end unit testing on every product intended for use by children under 12. It is the responsibility of the manufacturer to do this testing, regardless of how small the business. That means that manufacturers (like myself ) will have to pay to get every different product they offer tested. These tests have to be done at a CSPC accredited lab, and cost tens of thousands of dollars. For example if you offer 3 different types of dresses. Each dress contains 2 different fabrics, as well as buttons, and thread, so that's potentially $600 to test one dress. But if you have 3 or more styles, that's $1800. And when you get a new bolt of fabric, you need to start all over again.

At present, there are no exemptions for small businesses and "micro" manufacturers and most handcraft artisans. There is no exception for quantities made, where the garments/products are made or anything else. Nor is there an exception for unadorned fabric components, unfinished wood components, materials which, by their nature, are free of lead and phthalates.
Also, the Act takes a "guilty until proven innocent" approach, which would treat a handmade, unfinished wooden toy that doesn't meet the certification deadline of 2/10/09 as a "banned hazardous substance" which would be illegal to distribute in this country. Each infraction carries a $100,000 felony charge. This legislation is also retroactive for any pre-existing inventory as of February 10th, 2009. This means that everything on the shelves in those big (or small) stores will also be "banned, hazardous substances" - contraband.

Larger corporations that can afford testing will incur thousands, maybe millions of dollars in fees, and this expense will be handed down to the consumer, probably making the prices for children's products go through the roof.

This also means that after that date, even selling your kids old things on eBay or Craigslist will be illegal. Charities will not be able to accept donations without a certificate of compliance either. February 10, 2009 is being dubbed “National Bankruptcy Day” by many people in the apparel and toy industry. If this legislation is not amended, it will affect everyone from port workers to parents looking for legal products. Billions of dollars worth of children's products will have to be destroyed because they can’t be legally sold, and this will cause major environmental problems.

While I am all for higher safety standards and keeping our kids safe, this law is so overreaching as to put thousands on manufacturers of children's products out of business -hurting our economy and causing even more loan defaults. Though this legislation was well-intentioned, it cannot be allowed to stand as is.

Please help us defend the American dream and our entrepreneurial spirit! This law affects every stay at home mom trying to help put food on the table and every grandmother knitting blankets for the local craft fair. It makes the thousands of us who have found a niche in the burgeoning handmade market have to make a tough decision - continue to produce items illegally and possible incur a $100,000 fine, or close up shop and maybe not be able to pay the mortgage this month. Please help us!

Tyson and his brothers have 2 Powered Parachutes. Tyson's brother Trevor was taking Andy and Alex (his girlfriend) up on rides, and Nash was DYING to go. So...we strapped him in, and up he went. He loved it!! This thing can take you as high as 10,000 feet up in the air, but i made trevor only only 1,000 feet up with Nash. Nash kept telling Trevor to higher.

After Nash got off......he was all smiles. And he can't wait to go again!

SO, Mya and her friend David were playing down in the kitchen and they were being awfully quiet. So when i came downstairs I saw THIS!!!! AHHHHH. Mya was sitting on the floor while David cut her hair. Thankfully, he didn't cut a whole piggy tail off. I'd have to go buy her a wig!

For FHE last night we carved pumpkins with andy and alex. The kids had a blast.
This was Mya's first time carving so she had to be RIGHT in your face while we carved.
the end results.....(i know they are a bit fuzzy..sorry). On Mya's pumpkin she wanted a smiley face, with her name on the back. Nash wanted a bat with his name on the back. And Andy and Alex did one with 2 scary looking people.

So, Nash's b-day was on Friday and he had his party on Thursday. Boy was it fun. Nash had a blast. We had it at our clubhouse, so we went swimming! Nash had 15 friends come. Yeah...it was crazy but so much fun. He got a ton of present and loved all of them!

For Tyson's b-day we went to Green Canyon hot springs. We had a blast. This top picture has a story.... there were a bunch of collage students there swimming and we having a diving board contest thingie. They were all just trying different jumps and dives. Nash was watching them and wanted to do it also. So this little (almost) 5 year old goes up and stands with all the college students and runs off the diving board and does a "twist" cannon ball. It was so cute! All the college students started clapping and hollaring. It was so funny!

This past week we have had awesome weather! Today actually got up to 85 degrees!! YAHOO. So we have been taking full advantage and playing outside. Yesterday and today we pulled out the slip-n-slide and a walk-through sprinkler (thanks to my old neighbors who left is for us!) It's been so much fun getting all the neighbor kids and moms together and play. I know it won't last much longer, so I am staying outside as much as possible.

When we got back to Idaho, we went to Tyson's family reunion. It was a lot of fun. We went canoeing down the Snake River, played with cousins, and went 4-wheeling. Nash learned out to drive it by himself and he loved it! We couldn't get him off of it.
First day of Kindergarden! He started school this week and was sooo excited. He's been counting down the days. He goes full day now, and is excited about all the new kids in his class.

Nash and Mya got so dark while we were in Georgia. We were in the sun almost every day. Nash tans really easily...just like my brother Brett. But he also loses it really fast. My dad nicknamed them... Diego and Chakita (sp?). If you ask Mya today what her name is she says...very loudly..."go-kita."
Poor nanna!! (you're gonna kill me for posting this aren't ya??) While going to pick Mya up, her back spasmed out and she couldn't move. She could only roll herself onto the floor, right where she was, and lay there for a few hours until she could get up. It was actually kinda funny seeing her just lay there. Mya would occationally lay beside her to keep her company.

Roller Skating!!!!!

Tyson and I took the kids roller skating with our friends the Clarkes. WOW....i don't think we'll go again for a couple years! it was really hard. Nash couldn't stay up unless he was on the carpet. Mya actually did a little better than Nash. They both loved it, but Nash got more frustrated than Mya. She loved it and kept wanting to go around and around. We had fun, but we don't think we'll go again until the kids are a bit older. Mine and Tyson's backs are sore from holding the kids up. And I'm shocked we left there without anybody breaking their wrists!

Swimming

We have been swimming alot lately. My kids are quite the little fish. Mya loves loves to "crawl" the wall of the pool the whole time, and Nash does cannon balls into the deepend. He is swimming so good. He learned how to dive to the bottom of the deep end and get the diving stick and come back up, and swim to the side all by himself and with not floaties or anything!! He did awesome!!!!

Tyson, the kids and I are down here in Atlanta! Yea. We are going to be here for a few weeks, and I can't download any of my pictures. I know...totally annoying. I have the funnest pictures too. So i'll just give a recap of our time here so far.

Our 4th of July weekend was a blast. We went to the Peachtree City parade, which was so fun and long. The kids got SOOO much candy and balls and frisbees. Then we spent the rest of the afternoon at my brothers girlfriends house swimming. Mya was stuck by Sarah's side the whole time, and nash was learning how to do cannon balls by her brother. He can totally swim in the deep end of the pool now with no floaties! He did awesome. Then we headed into Atlanta to Centenial Olympic Park for fireworks. It was the best show i've ever seen. Mya was scared....she thought the fireworks were going to get her...so she hid behind our backs most of the time.

Then on Sat, we headed to Lake Wedowee to my parents place on the lake for my nephews b-day. We went tubing, land locking, and wakeboarding. I took Mya on the tube and she loved it. Nash went on also...and boy did he LOVE it. He kept wanting to go faster and faster. He's such a dare devil...(unlike Mya and me).

So that was our weekend. It was so much fun. Also, on thursday... me, nash, and a friend of mine with her kids went to American Adventures. It's a theme park for kids under 10 years old. Nash didn't want to leave. His favorite was the roller coaster and the twistee cups.

Tyson's oldest sister Teresa got re-married this weekend down in Salt Lake. It was a beautiful wedding. We are so excited for Teresa and her new family.

The ceromony was in Teresa'a best friends backyard. It was gorgeous!! The prettiest backyeard i have ever seen.
Mya is looking for bugs...yuck.

Those of you who want to feel sorry for me you can....because it is SNOWING! Yeah, you heard me right. SNOWING! It is still freezing here. I don't know when summer is going to arrive. I've heard rumors of it coming next week...but I don't believe it. The high this past 2 weeks has only been in the high 50's!!! And the wind....wow. If any of you have ever been to Rexburg, you know that it is always windy here. And this week has been extra bad with winds reaching 40 miles an hour on Tuesday. So those of you who live in warm....HOT.... weather... feel grateful. Cause at least you're warm and can go outside to play! Okay.....I just needed to vent. Anyone want to send me on a vacation?

Nanna came to visit this week! The kids had so much fun. Nash was in heaven with the activites nanna brought with her. He read and read and read with her, and learned the names of major bones in the body (he impressed his dentist by telling him where his patella was) . Mya loved the attention from nanna and never left her side. Also...we got kittens! 2 of them...but i will do a post about them later.
Nash had soccer camp this wekend. He had so much fun, but he didn't quite get the concept of "sharing the ball." He's pretty good and has a good kick! His favorite thing is to hit the ball with his forehead, his coach taught him and he thinks it so cool.

So Mya is potty trained!! Hooray. I finally just decided to do it Thursday and she is doing really good! It's a big accomplishment and she thinks she's pretty cool! All thanks to a wonderful book called "Potty Training in less then a day." Worked great!

Hula Mula photo shoot

While we were visiting Missy in Washington, Mya was able to have a photo shoot for Hula Mula's Spring 09 line. I loved the outcome. She looks so cute!! (the outfits she is wearing are size 12 months! She's such a shrimp!)

Fish-sitting

Andy has a salt water fish aquarium that he let us fish-sit while he went to georgia. The kids love this thing! It has nemo, a star fish, a peppermint shrimp (its really cool looking) and other cool looking fish. They say goodnight to the fish...say good morning....and show the neighbor kids all the fish on a daily basis. Mya will just sit and watch the fish forever! (which if you know her...she doesn't still still for more than 2 seconds so this is great!) Andy will be taking it back soon...I guess we'll have to get our own fish tank.
